Projections for 2027 Social Security COLA Decline

Analysts have lowered their 2027 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment forecasts to the mid-3% range as inflation data shows signs of cooling.

Forecasts for the 2027 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) have declined as inflation indicators suggest more stable prices for retirees. The Social Security Administration is expected to announce the official figure in mid-October after the release of two more months of Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) data.

Independent analyst Mary Johnson lowered her forecast from 4.7% to 3.4%, while the Senior Citizens League reduced its projection from 3.8% to 3.6%. Current estimates suggest the final raise will likely land in the mid-3% range. While lower than previous estimates, this would still exceed the 2.8% COLA implemented in January.
