MediaTek Launches 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro AI Processors

MediaTek unveiled two new flagship smartphone processors, the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M, designed to increase the company's share of the premium handset market. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is the company's first mobile processor utilizing Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co's 2-nanometre process. It features a 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU design and a dual-NPU architecture that allows for the offline processing of large language models with up to 30 billion parameters.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro delivers up to 17% higher single-core and 15% higher multi-core performance over previous generations, with a 61% increase in multi-core power efficiency. Its AI capabilities include a 51% increase in prompt processing speed and 55% higher token generation per watt. The chip also introduces the G2-Ultra NX GPU, which supports up to 185 frames per second and 18% faster ray tracing. The Dimensity 9600M serves as a more affordable alternative, utilizing a 1+3+4 core configuration and LPDDR5X memory.

These chips arrive as direct competitors to Samsung's Exynos 2600 and follow the release of Apple's 2nm-based A20 Pro chip. Devices from manufacturers such as Oppo and Vivo are expected to ship later this quarter. Beyond mobile, MediaTek is expanding into data-center products, with an AI accelerator for a U.S. cloud provider expected in mass production by the fourth quarter of 2026. This expansion follows a $3.9 billion convertible bond sale, which included a $3.5 billion investment from Nvidia Corporation.
