Voter Flies 800 Miles to Kansas After Missing Ballot
Jesse Alexander traveled from Atlanta to Overland Park, Kansas, to vote in person after her requested absentee ballot failed to arrive.
Registered voter Jesse Alexander traveled over 800 miles from Atlanta, Georgia, to Overland Park, Kansas, to cast her ballot in person on Election Day. Alexander, who is temporarily residing in Georgia for work, had originally requested an absentee ballot from the Johnson County Election Office, but the document never arrived in the mail.
After the Johnson County Election Office informed her that in-person voting was her only remaining option, Alexander flew to Kansas City early Tuesday morning. Despite weather-related flight delays that pushed her arrival to 2:29 a.m., she successfully voted at Antioch Church in Overland Park before returning to Atlanta that night.
Alexander stated that the thought of not being able to exercise her right to vote bothered her enough to seek out available flights. She later noted that she felt good about the decision despite doubting herself during the early morning delays.
