Shopify Shares Surge on AI Optimism and Growth Expectations

Shopify Inc. shares rose in late July as investors anticipated strong second-quarter revenue growth and new AI-driven e-commerce tools.

Shopify Inc. saw its shares climb in late July 2026, surging between 7.5% and 8.97% on July 27 and continuing to rise by 2.7% on July 29. The rally occurred despite broader declines in the Nasdaq and S&P 500, fueled by investor optimism regarding AI-driven e-commerce and anticipation of second-quarter revenue growth in the high-twenties percentage range.

CEO Tobias Lütke contributed to the momentum by showcasing a new NVIDIA DGX Workstation used to develop a new implementation of the company's Liquid programming language. In addition to AI tools, growth is supported by a 21% increase in subscription revenue. The company also expanded its operational ecosystem through a native integration with DoorDash for U.S. brick-and-mortar merchants and the appointment of Marmeto as a Platinum Partner in India.

Institutional interest remained strong, with Readystate Asset Management LP taking a $14.28 million position and increased holdings from Vanguard Group Inc., Invesco Ltd., and Geode Capital Management LLC. While analysts from firms including Citigroup, Bank of America, and Jefferies maintain a general consensus of "Buy" or "Moderate Buy," Lütke has faced criticism for allegedly supporting increased voting power for wealthy individuals. The market awaits the company's second-quarter earnings report on August 5.
