China Demands US Revoke 100 Percent Drone Tariffs
The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China urged the United States to repeal Section 232 tariffs on drones and drone components.
The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China called on the United States to immediately revoke Section 232 tariffs on imported drones and related components. The Trump administration recently implemented these measures, which include tariffs of up to 100 percent, citing national security concerns while applying lower rates to other trading partners.
Ministry spokesperson He Yadong characterized the tariffs as discriminatory, unilateral, and protectionist. He argued that the U.S. has overstretched the concept of national security to harm Chinese enterprises and disrupt global supply chains. He emphasized that drones exported from China to the U.S. are primarily intended for civilian use in sectors such as agriculture, entertainment, and film production.
China also rejected findings from a U.S. report titled "The Great Transshipment Scam: Rise, Scope, and Costs," which alleged the existence of a shadow transshipment network. Chinese officials labeled these claims as fabrications designed to block Chinese products. The ministry maintained that U.S. trade policies are the primary threat to global supply chain security and urged Washington to lift the measures to restore fair competition.
