Greece and Israel to Sign €3.1 Billion Defense Pact
Greece and Israel will sign agreements in Tel Aviv on August 31 to develop the Achilles Shield air and missile defense system.
The General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments of Greece and Israel's SIBAT will sign agreements in Tel Aviv on Monday, August 31, to develop the Achilles Shield. The multibillion-euro project, valued at €3.1 billion, establishes a comprehensive air and missile defense system designed to modernize Greek military capabilities.
The network will integrate existing Greek Patriot batteries and drones with Israeli platforms, including Rafael's Spyder systems and Israel Aerospace Industries' Barak MX and David's Sling. The system will employ artificial intelligence to classify threats and optimize interception methods to lower operational costs.
Greece secured 25% participation in the project and gained access to the software control source code. Twelve Greek companies will contribute to work valued at over €700 million. The project is expected to reach completion within 35 months after the contracts take effect.
