Barrick Mining Considers Delaying North American Gold IPO to 2027
Barrick Mining Corp. may push back the initial public offering of its North American gold business to 2027 amid investor opposition.
Barrick Mining Corp. is considering delaying the initial public offering of its North American gold business until 2027, moving the timeline back from an original target of the end of this year. The Toronto-based miner is coordinating the deal with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and other investment banks.
The strategy to separate and list the North American mines was championed by Chairman John Thornton. However, the plan has faced opposition from several top investors, including one who called for Thornton's retirement. To resolve a potential legal obstacle to the listing, Barrick recently reached an agreement to grant Newmont Corp. a stake in a Nevada gold project.
Once the IPO is completed, Chief Executive Officer Mark Hill is expected to lead the newly formed North American unit. Sebastiaan Bock will oversee the company's remaining global operations.
