DWP Sets Attendance Allowance Rates for 2026/27 Period

The Department for Work and Pensions administers Attendance Allowance to state pensioners in the United Kingdom who have disabilities or severe health conditions. For the 2026/27 period, the benefit is provided at two tiers: a lower rate of £76.70 per week and a higher rate of £114.60 per week, which totals £458.40 every four weeks.

Eligibility is determined by the impact of a health condition on daily life rather than a specific diagnosis. Common qualifying conditions include dementia, arthritis, heart disease, and respiratory issues. The higher rate is specifically reserved for individuals nearing the end of life or those requiring supervision during both the day and night. Claimants can apply via GOV.UK or by post, and they are eligible regardless of whether they currently have a caregiver.

Attendance Allowance is separate from the State Pension and may enable claimants to access further support, including Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, or Council Tax Reduction. Residents of Scotland are ineligible for this benefit and must instead apply for the Pension Age Disability Payment.
