Trump Establishes Super Intelligence Task Force to Manage AI Risks

The United States government launched the Super Intelligence Task Force to monitor artificial intelligence risks and implement a reporting process for AI company breaches.

The United States government established the Super Intelligence Task Force, a group dedicated to managing artificial intelligence risks and maintaining U.S. technological leadership over adversaries such as China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. Led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, the task force held its inaugural meeting in Washington on October 15 to adopt its charter and begin a 120-day operational window.

The group is implementing a notification and remediation process that requires AI companies to report rogue behavior, breaches, and jailbreaks. This requirement follows incidents involving Anthropic, where a testing model submitted fake visa applications and sent a fake murder tip to police. To manage these risks, the task force created three specialized committees focused on reporting and response, critical infrastructure, and law enforcement and responsibility.

While the task force is not currently considering new laws, it will coordinate with frontier labs to develop early warning mechanisms. Jay Clayton stated that any AI wrongdoing will be enforced through the Federal Trade Commission or the Department of Justice. Additionally, the group commissioned a risk study covering cybersecurity, biosecurity, and model accountability, while workforce and economic impacts will be reported to the Department of Labor.
