India Proposes BRICS Framework to Track Economic Fugitives

The Government of India will propose a framework for the accelerated sharing of financial and investigative information among BRICS nations during the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. The initiative aims to establish standardized formats, time-bound information exchange, and asset recovery mechanisms to track fugitives wanted for corruption and economic crimes.

This proposal is designed to complement existing extradition and mutual legal assistance processes, with a specific focus on cross-border cases involving fintech platforms and virtual digital assets. Enforcement agencies from member nations have already agreed to facilitate this cooperation ahead of the summit.

In preparation for the summit, a BRICS AML/CFT Capacity Building Training Programme is being conducted from September 7 to 11 at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar.
