BMW Debrecen Plant Hits 50,000 iX3 Production Milestone

BMW Group produced 50,000 iX3 electric SUVs at its Debrecen plant in nine months, marking the fastest production ramp-up in company history.

The BMW Group produced its 50,000th iX3 electric crossover at the Debrecen plant in Hungary, achieving the fastest production ramp-up of any new model and facility in the company's history. Series production of the Neue Klasse electric SUV began in late October 2025, reaching this milestone in just nine months. To manage demand, which has pushed customer orders toward 100,000 units, the factory implemented a second production shift in February 2026 ahead of schedule.

The Debrecen site currently has an annual capacity of 150,000 units and is expected to begin producing the iX4 in November. While the plant currently supplies Europe and the United States, BMW plans to shift North American production to its San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico in 2027. Meanwhile, a long-wheelbase version of the iX3 is produced in Shenyang, China, for Southeast Asian and Chinese markets. BMW Group Malaysia announced that this long-wheelbase model will launch in Malaysia on August 6.

This rollout is part of a broader strategy to launch 40 new or updated models using the Neue Klasse architecture by the end of 2027. In the United States, the 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive is scheduled to arrive at dealerships on September 25 with a starting price of $63,850.
