India and Cyprus Hold First Joint Maritime Committee Meeting

India and Cyprus convened their first Joint Maritime Committee meeting in Limassol to expand cooperation in green shipping, finance, and maritime education.

The Government of India and the Government of Cyprus held the first meeting of their Joint Maritime Committee (JMC) on September 29 in Limassol, Cyprus. Co-chaired by Venkatesapathy S of India's Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Theodoulos Mesimeris of the Shipping Deputy Ministry of Cyprus, the session operated under a 2017 bilateral Agreement on Merchant Shipping.

An Indian delegation visited Limassol from September 28 to October 1, conducting meetings with the Cyprus Ports Authority, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, and the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute. Discussions focused on shipping finance, ship repair and recycling, maritime education, and green shipping, as well as cooperation within the International Maritime Organization.

The meeting is part of a broader India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan intended to deepen bilateral ties. To build on these discussions, the two nations are preparing for a visit by the Cypriot Shipping Deputy Minister to India and a Maritime Business Forum scheduled for November 2026 in Mumbai to facilitate capital investments and joint ventures.
