Anthropic Releases Fable 5.1 with Coding and Cost Updates
Anthropic PBC is launching the Fable 5.1 AI model with improved coding capabilities and a 75% price reduction for cached tokens.
Anthropic PBC is releasing Fable 5.1, an updated artificial intelligence model optimized for scientific tasks and complex coding projects. The new version improves the interpretation of dense diagrams and the design of experiments, specifically targeting proficiency in software development.
To lower operating costs for enterprise users, the company is implementing a 75% price reduction for tokens used when the model resurfaces previously processed information. Dianne Penn, head of product management for research and labs, stated that the cost reductions were a response to customer feedback. Anthropic is also updating its data retention policy to permit business customers to store data on their own cloud infrastructure.
In addition to the general release, the company will launch Mythos 5.1, an invite-only model, for a limited user group. These strategic updates occur as Anthropic faces competition from low-cost open-weight models from China and prepares for a potential public offering as early as this fall. The move coincides with similar efforts by rival OpenAI to develop professional tools for business clients.
