Ontario Schedules Extensive Highway Closures Across Three Regions

The Province of Ontario scheduled a series of extensive roadwork closures across three major regions from July 27 to July 28, 2026, to facilitate infrastructure maintenance and construction. These operations involved a combination of nightly alternating lane restrictions and daily closures.

On July 27, 50 closures were implemented in the Niagara and Peel regions. In Niagara, 22 closures affected the Queen Elizabeth Way, Highway 58, Highway 420, and East Main Street in Welland, with some restrictions expected to last through August 28. In Peel, 28 closures impacted Highway 401, 403, 410, 9, 10, and the Queen Elizabeth Way, primarily within Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon.

The scale of roadwork expanded on July 28, with 117 scheduled closures across the Peel and Simcoe regions. Peel saw an increase to 34 closures on major routes including Highway 401 and the Queen Elizabeth Way. Simcoe experienced the most significant disruption with 83 closures affecting Highway 400, 11, 12, 26, and 93, impacting cities such as Barrie, Bradford, Innisfil, and Orillia.
