X Blocks 500 Turkish Accounts Amid Market Crisis

X blocked nearly 500 accounts in Turkey following court orders as public criticism grew over a national fund market crisis.

The social media platform X blocked nearly 500 accounts in Turkey over the past week, restricting access to profiles belonging to journalists, economists, academics, and other public figures. The restrictions were implemented following court orders that cited national security and public order as the primary justifications for the blocks.

Internet censorship monitor EngelliWeb reported that the blocks coincide with a surge of social media activity regarding a fund market crisis. Many of the affected accounts had been posting criticisms of how the Government of Turkey managed the financial situation. X has not provided specific reasons for the individual account blocks beyond the legal mandates.
