ICICI Bank Shares Rise Following First-Quarter Profit Beat
ICICI Bank shares rose over 1% after reporting a 13.88% increase in consolidated net profit for the first quarter of fiscal 2027.
ICICI Bank shares rose more than 1% in Monday trade after the lender reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 results that exceeded analyst expectations. The bank reported a 13.88% increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 15,440 crore, while standalone net profit grew 15.95% year-on-year to Rs 14,804.5 crore. Net interest income increased 12.7% to Rs 24,384.35 crore.
The bank achieved nearly 20% year-on-year loan growth, outpacing the industry average of 18.6% and the 16% growth reported by HDFC Bank. Asset quality also improved, with the gross non-performing assets ratio dropping to 1.38% from 1.67% a year ago. On the BSE, the stock closed at approximately Rs 1,461, adding over Rs 13,700 crore in market valuation.
Brokerages including Nomura, Bernstein, and Morgan Stanley maintained bullish outlooks, citing resilient margins and sector-leading growth. In contrast, HDFC Bank continues to struggle with constraints from its 2023 merger, including high-cost borrowings and a high loan-to-deposit ratio that have limited its credit growth and profitability relative to ICICI Bank.
