Romania Pledges EU Support During Vasile Tofan's First Visit

Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan conducted his first official foreign visit on July 30, traveling to Bucharest to meet with President Nicusor Dan and acting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. The leaders met at the Victoria Palace and Cotroceni Presidential Palace to coordinate strategic efforts to integrate Moldova into the European Union and improve regional connectivity.

Bilateral talks focused on accelerating infrastructure projects across the Prut River, specifically the Ungheni bridge and the Gutinas-Straseni and Suceava-Balti electricity interconnection lines. The Ungheni bridge is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Tofan also met with leadership from the Romanian Parliament and the Bessarabian Businessmen's Club to discuss the regional business environment and investment opportunities.

Regarding regional security, Bolojan and Tofan condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and expressed shared concerns over recent violations of their respective airspaces. Bolojan reaffirmed Romania's commitment to be Moldova's main supporter within the European Union and expressed support for Chisinau's pragmatic approach toward the reintegration of the Transnistrian region.
