India Hosts Quad Sherpas to Coordinate Indo-Pacific Strategy

Vikram Misri, India's Foreign Secretary, met with Quad Sherpas from Australia and Japan in New Delhi on September 3, 2026. Misri held separate discussions with Eleanor Jane Lawson of Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Hiroyuki Namazu of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate on bilateral, regional, and global issues.

These meetings serve as preparations for the upcoming Quad Sherpas Meeting. They build upon the July Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting in Manila, where India, Australia, Japan, and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and expressed support for ASEAN unity and centrality.

The Quad members are currently prioritizing the practical implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. Specific areas of focus include maritime security, economic prosperity, humanitarian assistance, and the development of emerging technologies.
