Ukraine Launches Online Marketplaces for Decentralized Drone Procurement

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has implemented a decentralized procurement system for drones to bypass centralized bureaucratic inefficiencies and adapt to rapidly evolving battlefield technology. The government launched two online marketplaces, Brave1 and DotChain, which operate like consumer e-commerce sites. These platforms enable commanders to select from hundreds of drone models from various manufacturers using allocated credits and bonus points earned through successful attacks.

The program expanded in November to include 130 brigades, covering nearly the entire Ukrainian military. By shifting procurement power to lower-level commanders, the system ensures that combat units in areas such as Pokrovsk and Kharkiv receive specialized equipment tailored to specific conditions. This flexibility allows the military to more effectively counter Russian forces, including those deploying Iranian-designed Shahed drones.

The initiative is managed by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Defence. The Defense Procurement Agency oversees the technical implementation, providing a system where brigades can track stock levels and quantities in real time. Global militaries are currently studying these procurement tactics and their application in active combat zones.
