Georgia Records Lowest US Gas Prices Amid National Spike
AAA reports Georgia has the lowest gasoline prices in the US at $3.80 per gallon as national averages exceed $4 for the first time in October.
AAA-The Auto Club Group reports that gasoline prices in Georgia have declined to a state average of $3.80 to $3.81 per gallon, making it the state with the lowest fuel costs in the United States. This figure represents a 5-cent drop from the previous week and a 17-cent decrease from last month, although prices remain 94 cents higher than the previous year. Within Georgia, Savannah maintains the highest average at $3.91, followed by Atlanta and Hinesville-Fort Stewart.
Nationally, fuel costs have reached an unusual peak for the season. The national average has hit $4.36 per gallon, marking the first time the average has stayed above $4 per gallon in October. This trend is attributed partly to crude oil prices climbing back above $80 per barrel. California currently records the highest prices in the country at $6.30 per gallon.
Similar downward trends appeared in Texas, where regular gasoline fell 8 cents from last week to an average of $3.82 per gallon, while diesel averaged $5.67. Despite these slight dips, Texas prices remain $1.15 higher than the same period last year. In Georgia, the region avoided significant supply disruptions or price spikes despite the impact of Hurricane Isaias.
