UK Chancellor John Healey Negotiates Entry Into Canada-Led Defence Bank

UK Chancellor John Healey is negotiating the United Kingdom's entry into the Canada-led Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB). The global initiative aims to raise approximately 100 billion euros to provide low-cost loans and guarantees for governments and contractors to counter security threats.

This shift in policy follows a previous rejection of the DSRB by former chancellor Rachel Reeves. Reeves had instead launched the Multilateral Defence Mechanism alongside Finland, Poland, and the Netherlands, arguing that a merger of the two rival financing schemes was necessary to avoid duplicating efforts and straining public finances.

Canada has formally invited the UK to join eight other nations, including Turkey and Ukraine, as a founding member. Healey is scheduled to meet Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne in the UK this week to finalize discussions regarding the bid.
