OpenAI and Synopsys Partner to Develop GPT-Synopsys Chip Model

OpenAI and Synopsys have entered a multi-year strategic partnership to develop GPT-Synopsys, a specialized AI model intended to automate semiconductor chip design. The collaboration integrates frontier AI models with electronic design automation tools, allowing the AI to function as an expert engineer that runs tools, interprets outputs, and iteratively optimizes power, performance, and area.

Under the agreement, OpenAI will license Synopsys tools for model development, and both companies will share revenue through joint go-to-market initiatives. The GPT-Synopsys model will run on OpenAI-hosted infrastructure and integrate with the Synopsys.ai and Synopsys Autopilot platforms.

Both companies stated that customer design data will be protected by enterprise-grade security and will not be used for model training. The partnership aims to accelerate the chip design process while maintaining silicon quality and performance standards.
