Jay Clayton Warns of AI Espionage at White House Meeting

Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned that foreign adversaries are using super intelligence to target U.S. businesses and critical digital infrastructure.

Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned that the U.S. government and private sector must remain vigilant against foreign espionage as artificial intelligence, now termed super intelligence, advances. Speaking after the inaugural meeting of the Super Intelligence Force at the White House on Thursday, Clayton stated that the U.S. must maintain its lead over adversaries including China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea to protect critical digital infrastructure.

Clayton cited the arrest of Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national and OpenAI software engineer accused of planting a recording device in a confidential meeting area, as evidence of foreign efforts to undermine U.S. leadership. He also referenced a report from Anthropic indicating that the Iranian regime used AI to track U.S. Navy ships, while Chinese-linked operations utilized the technology to surveil dissidents and recruit spies.

In response to these threats, the Super Intelligence Force is implementing technology accords and establishing labor reporting systems. The task force has also commissioned a risk study through the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
