Lisianthus Tech Report Details Millions of Cyberattacks Against India

Cybersecurity firm Lisianthus Tech released a report titled "Cyber Shikshit Bharat: Building a Cyber-Resilient India," detailing a massive surge in digital threats across India. The report identifies over 265 million cyberattack attempts and 369 million malware detections throughout 2025. Data from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team corroborates this trend, recording more than 29.44 lakh cybersecurity incidents during the same period.

A primary focus of the report is "Operation Sindoor," a military confrontation with Pakistan in May 2025. During this period, India faced nearly 1.5 million attack attempts using phishing, malware, and distributed denial-of-service campaigns, which resulted in approximately 150 successful system compromises. The report specifically identifies the groups APT36, also known as Transparent Tribe, and SideCopy as actors targeting government, defense, and aerospace organizations.

Critical infrastructure also faced significant pressure, with the power sector alone seeing nearly 200,000 attempted intrusions, alongside threats to telecom and government systems. To mitigate these risks, Lisianthus Tech recommends the creation of a National Cyber Crisis Management Framework, annual cyber risk audits, and an expansion of the cybersecurity workforce to over one million professionals. CEO Khushhal Kaushik stated that these threats represent a transition of cybersecurity from a technical challenge to a national security imperative.
