Apple Integrates Alibaba Qwen AI Into Macs in China

Apple allows Mac users in mainland China to integrate Alibaba's Qwen AI service with Siri and Writing Tools to counter falling market share.

Apple released a guide allowing eligible Mac users in mainland China to integrate Alibaba's Qwen artificial-intelligence service with Siri and the Writing Tools feature. The extension is available for computers running macOS 26.6 or later and enables users to perform content creation and complex document analysis.

Under the terms of the agreement, Alibaba is prohibited from using integrated materials to train its AI models. While the current guide applies only to Mac computers, Alibaba stated that Qwen will eventually be incorporated across all Apple Intelligence software in China, including the iPhone and iPad.

The move follows a decline in Apple's Chinese market share, with Mac shipments dropping 9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter to approximately 800,000 units. This integration is intended to help Apple compete with domestic rivals such as Lenovo and Huawei, who have promoted their own AI ecosystems to capture the PC market.
