Jamie Dimon Warns US Dollar Reserve Status at Risk

JPMorgan Chase & Co. CEO Jamie Dimon warns that the US dollar could lose its reserve currency status without maintained economic and military dominance.

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., warned that the United States risks losing the dollar's status as the world's reserve currency if the country fails to maintain its economic and military dominance. Speaking on PBS' "Firing Line with Margaret Hoover," Dimon stated that a fragmented world would be dangerous and argued that the U.S. must reduce its dependence on China for steel, aluminum, and rare earths.

Dimon cited the war in Iran as evidence that the United States lacks the productive capability required to sustain a prolonged conflict. He characterized the reliance on China for critical materials as a mistake and called for a return to domestic production to counter mercantilist behavior.

To address these national security vulnerabilities, JPMorgan Chase & Co. launched a $1.5 trillion, 10-year Security and Resiliency Initiative in October. The program targets industries essential to U.S. security, including quantum computing, AI, defense, energy, and advanced manufacturing.
