Ferrero Expands US Presence With Multibillion-Dollar Acquisitions
Ferrero has grown its US revenue to $3 billion through strategic acquisitions of brands like WK Kellogg and investments in domestic infrastructure.
Ferrero, the Italian confectionery company behind Nutella and Ferrero Rocher, has expanded its United States snack market presence through a decade of strategic acquisitions and infrastructure investment. The company now owns more than 50 U.S. brands, including Fannie May, Keebler, and Famous Amos. In February, Ferrero acquired WK Kellogg for $3.1 billion.
This expansion increased the company's U.S. revenue from approximately $600 million in 2017 to about $3 billion, which now represents 15% of its global revenue. To support this scale, Ferrero invested over $5 billion in U.S. infrastructure, establishing a chocolate-processing facility in Bloomington, Illinois, and a research center in Chicago.
As part of its growth strategy, the company is tailoring products for American consumers. This includes the launch of Nutella Peanut, the first new flavor for the brand in over 60 years. Michael Lindsey, President and Chief Business Officer of Ferrero North America, noted that the company focuses on buying well-established brands and turning them around, while adapting to local preferences for milk chocolate and peanut flavors.
