World Economic Forum Predicts Rapid Global AI Adoption

The World Economic Forum reports that artificial intelligence adoption is expected to accelerate globally over the next 12 months. According to the September 2026 Chief Economists' Outlook, 97% of surveyed chief economists anticipate increased adoption, and 69% expect the technology to unlock meaningful productivity gains.

While 78% of respondents believe data-center investment will contribute significantly to global growth, the report highlights a disconnect regarding employment, as 61% do not expect these investments to generate a significant share of global job creation. Economists also anticipate local community pushback against data-center expansion, with 79% citing concerns over rising electricity and water prices.

To support the necessary AI infrastructure, the report predicts increased global investment in nuclear energy (83%), renewables (80%), and fossil fuels (70%). Additionally, 69% of economists expect Chinese large language models to reach parity with U.S. counterparts within a year.
