James Lankford Proposes Law Requiring Congress Work Seven Days Weekly

U.S. Senator James Lankford is pushing for the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act to end the cycle of federal funding lapses. The proposed legislation would require Congress to remain in session seven days a week and prohibit the consideration of any bills other than appropriations until funding is finalized.

Lankford argues that lawmakers should bear the consequences of budget stalemates rather than federal employees and their families. He noted that while the Senate previously voted to withhold its own pay during shutdowns, such measures do not protect federal workers from losing wages.
