Average car insurance premiums for drivers in the United Kingdom have stabilized at £713 over the last year, according to data from Confused.com. This figure represents a 17% decrease compared to prices from two years ago.
Cost trends vary significantly by age and region. Young drivers are seeing the most substantial savings, with 17-year-olds paying an average of £1,755 and 18-year-olds paying £2,083. In contrast, premiums for drivers aged 70 increased by 5% to an average of £411. Geographically, Inner London remains the most expensive area with an average premium of £1,079, while Northern Ireland experienced a 25% year-on-year increase to £1,059.
Motoring expert Matt Crole-Rees advises drivers to run new quotes 28 days before their policy expires to potentially save up to 53%. He notes that renewal prices may not reflect updated personal details or changing coverage needs, suggesting that shopping around and adding named drivers can further reduce costs.
