Amazon Makes Alexa+ AI Assistant Free for Fire TV
Amazon is rolling out its AI-powered Alexa+ assistant for free to all compatible Fire TV devices in the United States.
Amazon announced the free rollout of its AI-powered assistant, Alexa+, to all compatible Fire TV devices in the United States. The upgrade is automatic and available to all users regardless of Amazon Prime membership status, removing a previous $19.99 monthly fee for non-Prime subscribers.
Compatible hardware includes the Fire TV Cube, current-generation Fire TV Sticks, Amazon Ember smart TVs, and third-party televisions from TCL, Panasonic, and Hisense. The new system introduces conversational search, enabling users to find content by mood or theme and ask follow-up questions. It also integrates smart home management, including the ability to control lighting, locks, and Ring camera feeds.
Amazon reports that Alexa+ users engage in nearly twice as many conversations as they did with the original Alexa and select top recommendations 40% more often. While the core assistant is now free, users still require an Alexa+ Standard subscription or a Prime membership to access advanced features such as Home Modes and Alexa Routines on Fire TV.
