South Bend Railroad Receives $25 Million Federal Grant

Representative Rudy Yakym announced $25 million in federal funding for the South Bend Railroad to upgrade tracks and crossings in northern Indiana.

U.S. Representative Rudy Yakym announced that the Chicago South Shore Line's South Bend Railroad will receive up to $25 million in federal funding. The grant comes from the Federal Railroad Administration's Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program.

The funds will be used to rehabilitate tracks in northern Indiana, replace cross and switch ties, and improve switches. The project also includes upgrading four railroad crossings to increase safety and reliability for the region. Yakym stated that freight rail is essential to the northern Indiana economy.

South Bend Railroad President Todd Jornstad credited Yakym's support for the successful grant application. Jornstad noted that the infrastructure improvements will provide direct benefits to both employees and shippers.
