RSF Captures Strategic Al Kurmuk Town in Sudan

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies, including the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North, captured the strategic town of Al Kurmuk in Blue Nile State on Thursday. The RSF reported inflicting heavy losses on the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and seizing significant hardware and ammunition. However, the local administration in Al Kurmuk stated that the SAF continued to confront attacks involving artillery and drones.

Al Kurmuk serves as a critical cross-border route linking Ethiopia with the Nile Valley and is situated near the borders of South Sudan and Ethiopia. This victory follows the RSF seizure of Qayssan earlier in the week.

In a separate engagement, the SAF reported repelling an RSF assault on the town of Jabra al-Sheikh in North Kordofan, which involved more than 250 combat vehicles. These clashes are part of a broader civil war that began in April 2023, which has displaced millions and triggered a severe humanitarian crisis.
