Russian Strikes Kill Two in Ukraine as Lavrov Rejects De-escalation

Russian aerial strikes killed at least two people in Ukraine overnight into Sunday, September 27, 2026. In Kyiv, a drone hit a non-residential building, killing one man, and another struck a vehicle repair shop. In the Odesa region, multiple strikes killed one person and injured two others.

Simultaneously, a Ukrainian drone strike in the Russian-occupied town of Enerhodar killed a civilian woman and injured two others.

These military actions coincided with diplomatic friction at the U.N. General Assembly in New York. Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, rejected calls for de-escalation following a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. Lavrov dismissed the encounter, claiming Wadephul merely reiterated a position condemning Russia. Wadephul maintained that improving relations requires a genuine willingness from Russian leadership to end the war.
