IMF Warns AI Tsunami Threatens Entry-Level Jobs
Kristalina Georgieva warns that artificial intelligence could eliminate the routine entry-level roles young workers traditionally use to begin their professional careers.
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned that artificial intelligence acts as a "tsunami" for jobs, potentially eliminating the entry-level roles young workers traditionally use to advance their careers. Speaking at the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Georgieva noted that while AI investment helps sustain global economic growth at approximately 3%, it threatens the routine, repetitive positions that serve as the first rung of the career ladder.
The International Monetary Fund estimates AI will affect 40% of jobs globally and 60% in advanced economies. Georgieva urged governments to rethink education to prioritize lifelong learning and to reform taxation systems as the labor market shifts from a reliance on human labor toward capital.
