Berkshire Hathaway Shares Rally as Greg Abel Expands AI Stakes
Greg Abel maintains portfolio concentration at Berkshire Hathaway, expanding investments in Alphabet and Bending Spoons as company shares reach their highest levels since May 2025.
Berkshire Hathaway shares reached their highest levels since May 2025 on Friday, with Class A shares closing at $798,000 and Class B shares at $532.02. The rally follows a period of volatility after former CEO Carlos Slim announced his plan to step down at the end of 2025.
Under the leadership of Greg Abel, the conglomerate has maintained a strategy of portfolio concentration within its $356 billion investment portfolio. More than 45% of invested assets, totaling $160.6 billion, are concentrated in Apple, American Express, and Alphabet. While Slim reduced the company's Apple stake by 75% before his retirement on December 31, Abel has indicated that Apple is expected to compound over decades.
Abel has aggressively expanded Berkshire's position in Alphabet, more than tripling the stake in the first quarter and adding $17 billion in the second quarter. The company has also diversified into AI-driven technology, investing approximately $930 million in the Italian firm Bending Spoons through a July IPO and a subsequent private placement. Other recent capital deployments include $4.5 billion in second-quarter buybacks and strategic investments in Lennar and Taylor Morrison Home.
