Elon Musk to Independently Build Terafab AI Chip Complex
Elon Musk announced his companies will independently build and operate the Terafab AI chip fabrication complex in Texas, ending speculation about a TSMC operational role.
Elon Musk announced Wednesday that his business empire will independently build and operate Terafab, a planned artificial intelligence chip fabrication complex in Texas. The facility is designed to serve the needs of Tesla Inc. and SpaceXAI.
The announcement ends speculation that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. would run the venture. While Musk confirmed previous discussions with the chipmaking leader, he clarified that any involvement from the company would be limited to potentially leasing or subleasing a portion of the site.
Intel remains a partner in the project. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan confirmed the U.S. chipmaker will stay involved in the venture.
