Trump Administration Activates Dormant Terrorist Removal Court

The Trump administration began using the Alien Terrorist Removal Court to deport foreign nationals linked to narco-terrorism and cartels.

The Trump administration has activated the Alien Terrorist Removal Court (ATRC) to facilitate the deportation of foreign nationals associated with cartels and narco-terrorism. Although established in 1996, the specialized court remained dormant for approximately 30 years until the United States Department of Justice submitted its first application earlier this month.

The ATRC operates under seal to prevent the public disclosure of classified national security intelligence. Chief Judge Joan Ericksen responded to the initial application by requesting supplemental information, stating that the court had questions regarding the nexus between the respondent's actions and the specific legal sections invoked by the government.

While the administration intends to use the court as a mechanism to clear backlogs of illegal aliens, legal experts suggest the process is not a fast-track procedure and could lead to extended appeals reaching the Supreme Court.
