House Committee Probes Five Major Labor Unions Over Spending

The Republican-led House Committee on Education and Workforce launched an investigation into five of the largest labor unions in the United States. The committee is demanding financial records dating back to January 2023 from the United Auto Workers, United Steelworkers, SMART Transportation Division, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division.

The probe follows allegations that union leadership misappropriated funds to support Democratic candidates and progressive causes while spending millions on lavish personal perks. Committee Chairman Tim Walberg stated the investigation is necessary because rank-and-file members may not share the political funding priorities of their union leadership.
