Sherrod Brown Wins U.S. Senate Seat in Ohio
Democrat Sherrod Brown defeated Republican Jon Husted to reclaim his U.S. Senate seat in a high-spending Ohio election.
Sherrod Brown won the U.S. Senate race in Ohio on November 3, 2026, defeating incumbent Republican Senator Jon Husted. Brown previously served three terms before losing his seat in 2024, making him the seventh former senator since 1946 to return to the chamber.
The contest was one of the most expensive in the United States, with candidates and outside groups spending more than $422 million. Campaigning focused on healthcare costs, affordability, and data centers, with Brown specifically targeting Husted's previous record on data center deals during his tenure as lieutenant governor.
Because Brown won a seat vacated by Vice President JD Vance, he is only assured two years in office and must run for reelection in 2028. His victory was part of a broader Democratic sweep in Ohio, which included Amy Acton defeating Vivek Ramaswamy for governor and incumbent Representative Shontel Brown winning reelection to Ohio's 11th Congressional District over Republican Mike Kirchner.
