Anambra and Delta Governors Report Zero Debt at Investment Summit

Governors Chukwuma Soludo and Sheriff Oborevwori announced their administrations have not borrowed funds during the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit.

At the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit on Monday, Chukwuma Soludo and Sheriff Oborevwori both announced that their respective state administrations have not borrowed money since assuming office.

Soludo stated that he previously withdrew Anambra state from the World Bank-funded NG-CARES programme to avoid exchange rate distortions. While he confirmed his current zero-debt status, he declined to commit to never borrowing in the future, citing a need for foreign capital to drive growth. He noted that Nigeria's macroeconomic environment, including foreign reserves and exchange rates, has since stabilized.

Governor Oborevwori asserted that Delta state has not borrowed from any bank and does not intend to do so despite investments in public infrastructure. During the summit, Soludo also advocated for the consumption of locally manufactured goods, suggesting that prioritizing made-in-Nigeria products could create over 10 million jobs.
