Fortescue Iron Ore Shipments Fall 6 Percent in First Quarter
Fortescue reported a 6 percent decline in quarterly iron ore shipments and a 37 percent drop in cash balance due to maintenance and supply negotiations.
Fortescue reported a 6 percent decline in iron ore shipments for the first quarter ending September 30, shipping 46.8 million metric tons. This figure fell short of the 49.7 million metric tons recorded in the previous year and missed the Visible Alpha consensus estimate of 47.5 million metric tons.
The Australian miner attributed the shipment decline to maintenance activity, specifically scheduled port outload shutdowns. Alongside the production dip, the company reported a 37 percent drop in its cash balance during the September quarter.
Fortescue noted that its future forecasts remain subject to ongoing supply negotiations with China Mineral Resources Group, a state-backed buyer.
