Roche Reports Positive Phase 2 Results for Weight Loss Drug
Roche reported that its dual GLP-1 and GIP agonist enicepatide achieved significant weight loss and blood sugar reductions in Phase 2 clinical trials.
Roche Holding AG reported positive Phase 2 clinical trial results for enicepatide, a dual GLP-1 and GIP agonist developed for the treatment of diabetes and weight loss. In one trial, the drug achieved a mean, placebo-adjusted weight loss of 22.5% over a 48-week period. A separate Phase 2 trial involving overweight or obese patients with diabetes showed HbA1c reductions of up to 2.65 percentage points after 48 weeks.
These results position the company to compete with established market leaders Eli Lilly and Company and Novo Nordisk. However, Roche faces a crowded landscape of competing pipelines, including Novo Nordisk's CagriSema and zenagamtide, as well as retatrutide from Eli Lilly.
Despite the competitive pressure in the obesity market, Roche maintains stable financial performance. First-half revenue grew 6% year-over-year to 30.4 billion Swiss francs, driven by the performance of other products including Vabysmo, Xolair, and Ocrevus.
