President Boakai Urges Global Reform and Liberian Diaspora Unity

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai addressed the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 24, 2026, where he demanded structural reforms to the international financial architecture and the UN Security Council. Boakai advocated for a fairer voice for developing nations within the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, while supporting the Common African Position for at least two permanent seats for Africa on the Security Council to correct a historical injustice.

During his UN address, Boakai also called for climate justice and the fulfillment of financing pledges by industrial nations. He highlighted Liberia's efforts to combat drug trafficking and transnational organized crime in the Gulf of Guinea, requesting international assistance for port security and maritime surveillance.

These global appeals followed a September 18 event in Cockeysville, Maryland, organized by the National Independent Movement for Boakai–USA. Speaking at the Valley Mansion, Boakai urged the Liberian diaspora to move beyond humanitarian aid and remittances toward providing professional expertise, technology, and investment capital. He linked these contributions to the government's ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and called for the upcoming Liberia Diaspora Conference to produce tangible policy proposals rather than ceremonial outcomes.
