Hyundai Delays Proprietary Software, Partners With Nvidia for 2028 ADAS

Hyundai Motor Group delayed the launch of its proprietary driver-assistance software to late 2029, pushing back its original late-2027 target by two years. To bridge this gap, the automaker partnered with Nvidia to roll out Level 2+ and Level 2++ advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) throughout 2028. These interim systems will utilize Nvidia's Hyperion 10 platform and rely on cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar, though the company is considering lidar for future Level 3 systems.

President Park Min-woo, a former Nvidia executive, is leading a strategic shift to co-design technology with the chipmaker to refine Hyundai's own software platform, Atria. As part of this effort, the group launched a Data Flywheel system to create a continuous cycle of data collection, AI training, and validation. Hyundai and its affiliate Kia Corp plan to leverage their global fleet to surpass competitors in accumulated driving data by 2033.

During a media day at 42dot headquarters, the group also introduced Vision-Language-Action technology to improve decision-making in edge cases. To secure large-scale validation data, Hyundai will launch a real-world Level 4 autonomous driving pilot in Gwangju by the end of 2026 in partnership with South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The collaboration with Nvidia further extends to AI data centers.
