Lowe's Stock Drops 23 Percent Amid Lowered Guidance

Lowe's Companies stock fell near a 52-week low after the retailer reduced financial guidance due to inflation and high mortgage rates.

Lowe's Companies stock has declined approximately 23 percent year-to-date, trading near a 52-week low of $186 per share. The downturn accelerated following the company's August 19 second-quarter earnings report, which showed flat earnings and flat same-store sales despite an 8 percent revenue increase to $26 billion.

The sell-off followed the company's decision to reduce its guidance for sales, operating income, and earnings. Management cited high mortgage rates and inflation as the primary factors dampening consumer spending on home improvement projects.

Despite the stock decline, the company maintains a strong financial position with $7.1 billion in cash flow from operations through the second quarter and a 55-year history of consecutive dividend increases. Wall Street analysts remain largely bullish, with 72 percent rating the stock as a buy and setting a median price target of $254 per share.
