IBM and Together AI Sign $240 Million AI Cluster Deal

International Business Machines Corp. and Together AI signed a $240 million agreement to deploy an NVIDIA-powered AI inference cluster on IBM Cloud by early 2027.

International Business Machines Corp. and Together AI signed a multi-year, $240 million agreement to deploy a large-scale AI inference cluster on IBM Cloud. Scheduled for availability in the first quarter of 2027, the infrastructure will utilize NVIDIA HGX B300 systems and NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet networking. This marks the first dedicated large-scale inference cluster of its kind on the IBM Cloud platform.

Together AI will use the cluster to provide open-source model inference, aiming to offer enterprises higher performance and lower token costs than closed-model systems. The collaboration is part of a broader partnership between International Business Machines Corp. and NVIDIA to scale enterprise-grade AI infrastructure to meet the demand for economical and secure alternatives to proprietary models.

Together AI CEO Vipul Ved Prakash stated the cluster allows the company to bring production-grade inference to more companies faster. NVIDIA Senior Director Dion Harris described these AI factories as essential enterprise infrastructure, comparing them to electricity and telecommunications in their ability to turn compute and data into intelligence.
