Drone Strikes Kill Dozens in Ethiopia's Amhara and Tigray Regions
Ethiopian government drone strikes killed at least 27 people in displacement camps and towns across the Amhara and Tigray regions.
The Ethiopian government conducted a series of drone strikes across northern Ethiopia on October 29 and 30, 2026, resulting in dozens of civilian casualties. In the Amhara region, strikes hit the Hayiq Jari 2 Turk displacement camp near the town of Hayiq. The attacks destroyed over 20 shelters and killed civilians, including pregnant women, students, and children.
Casualty reports from the Amhara strikes vary. Local media and conflict monitors report at least 16 dead and 22 injured, while ACLED estimates between 16 and 23 fatalities. Many of the victims had previously fled violence in the Oromia region.
On Friday, a separate drone attack in the Tigray region targeted a grain lorry and civilians collecting scattered grain in Rama town, killing at least 11 people. These operations occur as federal forces continue fighting Fano militias in Amhara and the Tigray People's Liberation Front in Tigray. The Ethiopian army has not responded to requests for comment regarding the strikes.
