Iranians Petition to Send Hard-Line Lawmakers to War Zones
Over 100,000 Iranians are demanding that ultraconservative Paydari Front lawmakers be deployed to southern war zones following deadly U.S. air strikes.
More than 100,000 Iranians have signed an online petition on the Karzar platform demanding that members of the ultraconservative Paydari Front be deployed to southern war zones. The campaign targets the political faction's opposition to negotiations with the United States while U.S. Central Command conducts air strikes that have degraded Iranian military capabilities and killed nearly 40 people in southern coastal cities over six nights.
Internal political divisions have deepened following the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28. While Ali Khomeini has condemned those seeking peace through negotiation as traitors, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has defended the talks as a necessary strategy to protect national interests.
Reports indicate that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is currently employing a dual strategy. He is maintaining a public stance of rejection while quietly allowing diplomatic engagement to continue in an effort to prevent a full-scale war.
