Ammie Akin Wins Republican Primary for Alabama 7th District

Ammie Akin, a former public school assistant superintendent and nonprofit founder, won the Republican primary for Alabama's 7th Congressional District. She will challenge incumbent Democratic Representative Terri Sewell in the general election this November.

The primary follows a redistricting decision by the Supreme Court of the United States, which forced Alabama to redraw congressional lines. This led to special elections across four congressional districts. As part of this process, Alabama Republicans reshaped the 2nd Congressional District to favor Republican candidates and made slight boundary adjustments to the 7th District.

Despite the redistricting efforts, Terri Sewell remains the favorite to retain the seat she has held since 2011.
